Rockford Little League

Content

With the busy Holiday season behind us, it is time to prepare for the upcoming season.  With that in mind, we wanted to remind everyone that we have a new website and registration is now open. This letter has important information including: assessments, draft process, coaching information, and volunteer opportunities.

Rockford Little League is a non-profit organization whose mission is to “promote, develop, supervise, and voluntarily assist in all lawful ways, the interest of those who will participate in Little League Baseball and Softball.”

Through proper guidance and exemplary leadership, the Little League program assists children in developing the qualities of citizenship, discipline, teamwork and physical well-being. By espousing the virtues of character, courage and loyalty, the Little League Baseball and Softball program is designed to develop superior citizens rather than superior athletes.

REGISTRATION

While we’re excited about the new website, it will require setting up a new account this year.  None of the previous information came over from the old website. That being said a copy of your child’s Birth Certificate before you are able to proceed with the registration.  All players league age 9 years and above will need to sign up for an assessment time slot.  Please see the information below.

We will be having another walk in registration on Thursday February 6th from 5:30 - 7:00 pm if you need help.  Please keep in mind that registration will be closing on February 25th.

T-Ball (Baseball/Softball), Juniors (Baseball/Softball) and Senior Baseball registration closes on March 25, 2020.  Any girls interested in playing Seniors Softball will have the opportunity to play in the District wide league.

ASSESSMENTS

Assessments will be held on Saturday February 29th at North Rockford Middle School.  Baseball will go from 8:00am until 2:00pm and Softball will go from 3:00pm until 6:00pm

With a league of over 800 kids it is difficult to know everyone’s abilities, and assessments help in the drafting process. Therefore, we ask that players 9 years of age and up attend assessments. Here’s the link to register:

Softball: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0A4BAFAF2AA13-softball

Baseball: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0A4BAFAF2AA13-baseball

Players will be evaluated on a series of stations (hitting, throwing, catching, etc) so that they can be evaluated on skill level.  Coaches and Board Members will evaluate the player at each station by assigning them a value, we then take these values and enter them in a spreadsheet for the draft.

DRAFT PROCESS

Teams are built by selecting coaches and drafting players - this is why assessments are so important and are recommended for players 9 and up.

In doing so, the board and coaches aim to create a positive shared experience for all youngsters in the community.

Coaches before the draft are given the spreadsheet from assessments to help aid them in selecting the teams.  The draft is overseen by board members.

BASEBALL

Majors Division:  The number of teams is based on the number of 12 year olds that are signed up.  All 12 year olds will be drafted first. Followed by 11 year olds and younger until all spots are filled.

Minors Division :

AAA:  All remaining 11 year olds not drafted into the Majors will be placed on  a AAA team, any open spots on the teams will be filled by 10 year olds and possibly some 9 year olds.

AA: Is made up of all the remaining 10 and 9 year olds not drafted in AAA

SOFTBALL

Majors Division: The number of teams is based on the number of 12 year olds that sign up and is typically compiled of 12 and 11 year olds.

Minors Division: Number of teams are based on the number of 9 and 10 year olds that sign up

COACHES:

We are always looking for Coaches in our younger levels: T-Ball, Coach Pitch, AA.  These divisions are usually our largest and sometimes hard to fill. Please note on the registration form if you are interested in coaching.  If you have any questions regarding coaching please contact Mike Schuler, Jeff Geshel-baseball, or Steve Reitsma-softball.

 Volunteer & Committee Opportunities:

We are always looking for help in some form or another. Below is just a small list of Volunteer & Committee opportunities. Look for a sign-up Genius link as a way to plug in and help the league, and a couple of the open board positions. Many hands make light work!

  • Concessions:  Serving hot dogs & warm (or cold) drinks… for the best seat in the house!

  • Preseason/Opening Day Preparation: Get the fields ready for the start of the season

  • Field Maintenance & Equipment: assure our gear and fields are the best they can be.

  • Pictures: Help get teams ready for their time slot, and hand out pictures when we get them in

  • Assessments: Help at sign in table, run stations, etc

    Open Board Positions:

  • Secretary

  • Umpire in Chief

Please feel free to reach out to us if you are able to help or have any suggestions
